LINCOLN STORY

The development of the LincolnNet is in response to the work of the Regional Action Project/2000+, a grassroots regional action initiative spearheaded by Governors State University and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association in the spring of 1994. During the RAP process, hundreds of participants identified the lack of communication and information sharing as major barriers to cooperation and progress for the south metro region. The LincolnNet (along with its telephone counterpart the Lincoln InfoLine) provides both!

LINCOLN VISION

The vision of the LINCOLN project is to serve as a location for the gathering and sharing of information, and to provide community members, elected officials, businesses, and civic organizations with an environment in which cooperation and problem-solving can be fostered. Our goal is to be as inclusive as possible, believing that emerging information and communication technology should be available to everyone. LINCOLN accomplishes this by providing both computer (LincolnNet) and telephone (Lincoln InfoLine) access. As the information and communications revolution rages on, we must continue to seek ways to use this powerful new technology to empower the region to accomplish both individual and collective goals.

We have learned a great deal since we came on-line in May, 1996. With the help of the people we serve, we have been able to modify and redirect when necessary, and have taken giant steps toward literally linking up the south metro region. We will continue to improve, refine, and develop the LincolnNet as an outstanding model of information sharing and communication within this large region that is urban, suburban, and rural in scope.

LINCOLN PARTNERS

LincolnNet is truly "partnership in action," having been collaboratively created and developed by a small staff and a distinguished Steering Committee, along with the following organizations and the input of many community members:
