Visit Great America!
by Ivan (age 14)

Bored? Need somthing fun to do this summer? Well I have just the thing. It's a place called Great America and I guarentee that you will have fun.

Great America is a theme park located in Gurnee, Illinois and is the home to the midwest's tallest thrill ride.

Great America is separated into sections that have certain rides and attractions. For example there is the Southwest territory. All the rides and attractions in the Southwest Territory have western names and look like they were set in western time.

You may think that Great America is a place for teenagers and adults only, well your wrong. Great America has a section for smaller children called the Yukon Adventure. In this place children have many different things to do. They can ride bumper boats, play in funhouses, and for those of children who like cartoons they can meet there favorite looney tunes character.

Now for those of you who like roller coasters and fast rides Great America has plenty to choose from. There is the ShockWave, which is one of the biggest roller coasters in Great America. It has over nine loops and is fast, but not as nearly as fast as Batman. Batman is a short roller coaster but it's fast. It goes over 60 mph and is different than any other roller coaster. Instead of riding on the inner rails like most roller coasters Batman rides on the outer rails so when you sit down your feet are hanging in mid air.

Now you can't forget the newest ride at Great America. It's located in the Southwest territory and is the midwest's tallest thrill ride. It's the Giant Drop. For those of you who don't know what it is, let me explain. The Giant Drop is like a elevator that rises 22 stories. Once you're up there you better hang on because it's a five second freefall. For these rides you will have to wait at least in hour in line but it's worth the wait.

These are only a few attractions at Great America. There are many more, but there is only one way to find out about these rides and that’s if you visit Great America.
