D.A.R.E
to Stay Off Drugs

Hear Our Song!

In 5th grade we had a program called D.A.R.E. In this program, a police officer came to my class once a week. Officer Sedorock was my class officer. She taught us many things about how drugs are bad for our bodies. D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

During D.A.R.E. I had a lot of fun and learned many things. We learned almost anyone could try to offer us drugs; strangers, friends, or others that we know. We learned about different ways to deal with these offers. For instance, we can “just say NO!” We can also walk away and ignore the person. We were also taught that we should always tell our parents or teachers if someone offers us drugs. One of the ways that we learned these lessons was by role playing in class. This gave us experience about what might happen and how we should handle it.

At the end of D.A.R.E. we had to write an essay about what we learned. We also had to do either a skit, poem, poster, or song for the banquet. My group of six girls chose to sing a song. At the banquet we got prizes, certificates, and the groups did their skits or songs for the parents. My group was last. Our song was called “You’re a Loser.” I was very nervous, but I think we did a good job.

I wish we could have D.A.R.E. every year.
