Nicole's Broken Leg
by Sierra (age 8)
One night, my friend Nicole was over at my house and a terrible thing
happened. She broke her leg! It was one of my worst memories ever! I'm
sure it wasn't much better for her, either.
I did an interview with Nicole about what it is like to have a broken leg.
Sierra: |
When did you break your leg, Nicole?
Nicole: |
Tuesday, January 21, 1997
Sierra: |
How did it happen?
Nicole: |
It happened when we were building that pyramid. I was standing on yours
and your sister's legs. I jumped off and when I hit the ground, my leg
broke. I had a spiral fracture in my leg.
Nicole: |
Yes it did. Very much!
Sierra: |
What happened when you got to the hospital?
Nicole: |
When I got to the hospital they gave me medicine for the pain. I had to
stay in the hospital for two days and they had to knock me out to set my
leg. I had a spiral fracture.
Sierra: |
How long were you out of school?
Nicole: |
I was out of school for about two weeks.
Sierra: |
When you went back to school, how did everyone treat you?
Nicole: |
Everyone was very nice and helpful. You and others were always willing to
help push my wheelchair and get me things that I needed.
Sierra: |
What did you do about clothes?
Nicole: |
That was one of the really bad parts. I could only wear sweat pants or
dresses the whole time I had my cast on. Nothing else would fit. When I
got to the hospital, I had brand new jeans on and they had to cut them
off. So much for my new pants!
Sierra: |
How long did you have to wear the cast?
Nicole: |
I wore it for 12 weeks.
Sierra: |
Did all your friends and family members get to sign it?
Nicole: |
Yes, that was one of the fun parts.
Sierra: |
Well, even though it happened at my house, I'm glad we're still best
friends! Thanks for the interview.
Nicole: |
You're very welcome. You'll always be my friend!
