New Community Resource!
Aunt Martha is offering Families Program for youth, ages 10 to 14, and their parents.
The primary aim of this free, seven-week program is to prevent communication breakdowns and to assist children and parents in setting and meeting goals as a family, in an effort to make theirs not just a good, but a great family.
Beginning January 12, 2004, the program will meet on Mondays, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Huth Middle School, 3718 W.213th Place, Matteson. Dinner and childcare are provided. This program is open to families in Park Forest, Matteson, Richton Park,
and a portion of Olympia Fields (for those youth who attend Huth Middle School).
At the beginning of each two and a-half-hour weekly gathering, parents and children sit down together and share a meal provided through the program.
Following dinner, parents and children are separated for activities and interactive discussion. Activities might include making a family tree, featuring the family's values, such as honesty, hard work and humor. Parents and youth regroup at the evening's conclusion.
The program is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services. For more information about Strengthening Families, call Marry Jo Brill at (708) 686-2058.
Sessions are limited to 12 families at a time. Child care is provided.
Aunt Martha's is a private, not-for-profit, state-licensed youth service agency. The agency is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
