When you are originally assigned accounts, your username is usual not something readily associated with your organization. This is because we only have 8 characters to work with. You can make this easier to remember by having us create an alias for your email and web site addresses. An alias is just another way to access your account name. In the case of email addresses, the server will check any incoming mail message against our alias file, which will redirect the mail into your account. The same holds true for websites. Here is an example:
Lets say you are a part of Microsoft's new non-profit wing. Your account name is la1100 and your website address is http://www.lincolnnet.net/users/la1100/home.html. Neither are very descriptive or easy to remember addresses. That is how aliases work. If you would like an alias for you website and/or email, fill out the form below. Note: We will honor all alias requests in the order in which they are received. If another group has the alias you want we will contact you so you can change your request.
Also, website aliases work best if the front page of your website is named
either home or index. Ex. home.html or
index.shtml. |
