We are posting this to tell you about the progress of the LincolnNet and
to ask you to become a partner in sustaining this regional system.
Since it was established in May 1996, the LincolnNet has been a tremendous success. We currently have 312 account holders from all over the south metropolitan region. Over 90,000 hits, 450 home pages, and 620 users accounts make up the LincolnNet system
. In the past three years, we have upgraded equipment and staff to support this unique regional technology network. We’ve provided affordable and accessible service, linking the organizations, communities and residents of our region.
Until now, the LincolnNet has been operated at no cost to its users. This has translated into free e-mail, hosting for websites, and technical support. The South Metropolitan Regional Leadership Center has been able to do this because it was supported by
a federal technology grant. The grant subsidy has now expired, and we need to become financially self-sufficient.
Over the past several months we have been working with a group of LincolnNet users to develop an equitable fee structure for our services. The fees we are suggesting now will make it possible for us to continue to maintain and develop the LincolnNet while
keeping it affordable and accessible to all.
