Requirements:
- One or more LincolnNet accounts
- 56k modem ( lower speed modems are compatible but will not produce
any
speed increases from this conversion )
The LincolnNet has recently purchased, in conjunction with Governors State
University, an upgraded, 56k modem system. Up until this time the
LincolnNet has been using older, 28.8 modems. We have only recently been
able to afford this upgrade.
To upgrade you dial-up settings you will only need to change a few
settings on your computer.
1. Open My Computer
2. Open Dial-up Networking
3. Right-click on your connection icon and choose Properties.
4. Change the phone number to 708-283-8910.
5. Where the mode is listed, click the Configure button.
6. Click on the Options tab.
7. Un-check Bring up terminal window after dialing.
8. Click Ok twice to close both windows.
9. Double click your connection icon.
10. In this window, the Connect to window, enter you username and
password, but enter your username as follows:
username@ln1.lincolnnet.net
inserting your assigned login for username.
11. Click Connect.
When it finished connecting you should get a connection speed of around
40,000 as opposed to the 24000 or 26400 you used to get.
Congratulations, you have now upgraded to 56k speed!
If you have any questions, contact the LincolnNet Helpdesk at 235-2120.
