As you may already know, the LincolnNet has included RealAudio in many of
its pages. You, too, can have Real Audio on your site.
Below are the steps you will need to take to include RealAudio on your
page. Please read all the directions before starting. If there are
any questions, contact webmaster@lincolnnet.net.
- Before you begin, you will need to download a copy of RealAudio
Encoder from Real.com and install it on your computer.
This is the program that
will convert the .WAV file to a .RA file.
- The next step is to record an audio file. Any sound recorder that
will save files in Windows .WAV format will work. For example, the
Sound Recorder in your Accessories folder will work. Record whatever
sounds or speech that you would like to have on your webpage and save it as a
.WAV file on your hard disk.
- Use the RealAudio Encoder to convert your .WAV file to an .RA file.
Follow the directions of the program to do this step.
- Next, you will need to create the file that will point to this .RA
file when the user accesses it in the browser. To do this, open Notepad
or any plain text editor, and type the following:
pnm://realaudio.lincolnnet.net/
~username/anyram.ra
where username is your lincoln account name and anyram is
the name of your .RA file. Save the file with the same name as the .RA
file, but with the extension .RAM.
Ex. anyram.ram
- You will now have two files: one with the extension .RA, and one with
the extension .RAM.
- Now open your LincolnNet account in WS_FTP.
The directory you will start out in is your home directory. It contains
you http and mail directories. In this directory, create a new directory
named rafiles. This is where you will need
to upload your .RA files.
Your .RA files will be the only files in this directory.
- Change to the new rafile directory and upload the file with extension
.RA into this directory.
- Now change to your http directory. In any directory under this,
whenever you want to link to a RealAudio sound file, you will need to have
the .RAM file in that directory.
For example: If my home page is in the users/username/ directory
and I want to include RealAudio in this page, I will place my .RAM file in
the users/username/ directory.
- From any page on your account, wherever you want to link to a
RealAudio file, use the following link:
<a href="anyram.ram">
where username is your username and anyram is the name of
your .RAM file. Don't forget to include
the path of the file if not in the same directory.
You should now have your own RealAudio files for your website. If you are
experiencing problems creating the files or getting them to work, please
send questions to webmaster@lincolnnet.net
