A Clearinghouse for Information and Discussion on the Federal Communication Commission's Telecommunications Act of 1996 as It Relates to Our Region

Recent changes in FCC regulations as reflected in the Telecommunications Act of 1996 provide for potential reductions in the cost of carrier charges for local governments, agencies, school and library districts. These changes also present some possibilities for economies of scale if eligible organizations work cooperatively to approach potential carriers.

In order to explore the implications and interpretations of this legislation as it relates to the south metro region, Governors State University, the South Metropolitan Regional Leadership Center, and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association offer this website as a repository for information and discussion on these issues.
