Good morning Sen. Halvorson. I read in the
newspaper that you now have an e-mail address.
However, knowing the press doesn't always get
everything right, I decided to try it personally to
see if this message gets through.

Take care,

Bruce Aldrich

Remember my writing that the press doesn't always
get everything right? Well, in the same newspaper
column that gave your e-mail address, it
states your golf outing is August 18th! If I'm not
mistaken, it is the 26th of August.

Senator Halvorson,

>From all of us here at South Suburban College who
participated in yesterday's golf outing, I want to
express my appreciation for the wonderful way in
which it was handled. The staff was helpful and
friendly, the food was great, the shotgun start and
best-ball method of play was a brilliant idea, and
the entire day was terrific. We will look forward
to next year.

Thanks again,

Bruce Aldrich

George/Debbie

Residents of South Chicago Heights recently were sent a notice that our well
water tested positive for e-coli contamination. The IEPA requires this
notification or you can be assured we would not have know. They stated that the
problem was corrected for now which was confirmed by the IEPA. Most likely by
chemical means (chlorination) rather than removal of the fecal intrusion. The
letter also eluded to vinyl chloride in the water and stated that it was no
longer present. This was not accurate per the IEPA. Although the level is below
the threshold for IEPA action, the contaminant has been present in samples and
the IEPA representative could not stated the water was safe on a long term
basis. They just could not act to spur city action but emphasized it was right
at the threshold.
This is concerning particularly because residents have approved the moneys
needed to bring Lake water in a recent referendum. We basically don't have it
because Mayor Owen refuses to buy from Chicago Hts (Ciambrone) and is trying to
find excess dollars to run piping from a Lansing or some other point where
Republicans will benefit at the residents expense.

My concern is that they will try to get low interest money from the IEPA to do
this costing not only the resident unneeded money but also the state to "feather
the nest"! If there is any way possible please alert the IEPA or whomever needs
to know that a proposal for Lake water should be reviewed carefully and that a
readily available supply is located in the abutting community reducing the
infrastructure cost. We need to replace politics with reason and focus on the
public good!

Secondly, the Mayor indirectly blamed the IEPA for the recent problem
suggestion that "dirty" sample bottles were provided and were the cause of the
positive test for e-coli. This is extremely unlikely but as you can imagine
almost impossible to prove. Can someone in the IEPA increase the pressure on
South Heights to fix its' water problem? I can afford bottled water but it is a
shame that others have to continue to ingest vinyl chlorides, etc. while the
most favorable political solution is sought and not the best community solution
on an expedient basis.

Any help you can be would be appreciated. Also don't fail to keep us informed
as you near re-election so we can support that effort.

Wiley J. Houchins
