HOPE COMMUNITY SERVICES, a United Way human services assistance agency,
was established in 1981 by concerned clergy and residents of the city of
Markham to provide emergency relief to low income families from the
communities of Markham, Harvey, Dixmoor and Phoenix: to give a helping
hand to neighbors down on their luck. To fulfill our mission we
can always use the help of people of good will as volunteers and/or
donors.
As a
member agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, our food pantry
program extends supplemental nutrition for fifty to sixty households
each week -- over three tons of food per month. HOPE COMMUNITY
makes emergency grants for overdue utility bills to prevent
shut-offs. HOPE COMMUNITY will help with rent/mortgage payments to
stop evictions or foreclosures. Shelter at local motels for the
short-term emergency is available. We strive to help low income
home owners maintain their property. HOPE COMMUNITY also assists
with prescription medicine and transportation needs. If we are
unable to help, we always attempt to refer those seeking help to other
resources.
