Subject: Rev 16 - Part 1

This chapter describes the seven vial or bowl judgments.
These are the last the series of judgments which will befall
the earth and are the most devastating.

I. Pestilence (1,2)

Angels Dispatched "And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth." - This voice originates in the temple of God in heaven. In chapter 15 the temple was portrayed as being filled with the smoke of the glory of God and that access to God had been terminated until the last seven plagues have been consummated. Nothing will be permitted to placate or delay the awfulness of God judgment. The seven angels are commissioned to empty the bowls of pent-up wrath of a holy God. Judgment follows each new outpouring from the bowls.

Jer 10:25 "Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate."
Anguish of Body  "And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image." - This plague is reminiscent of the sixth plague in the Egypt during the Exodus. There are three distinct characteristics of this plague.
