Welcome to the Village of Flossmoor and its traditions of excellence. A community of 8,500 located just 25 miles south of the Chicago Loop, Flossmoor offers a wide variety of attractions to residents and businesses alike. Among its assets are beautiful tree lined residential neighborhoods, a strong community identity, quality schools, diverse recreational opportunities and a sound economic base.
Flossmoor's location allows residents to enjoy easy commutes to and from Chicago, Joliet and the surrounding suburbs via the Calumet Expressway (I-94), the Tri-State Tollway (I-80/94), I-57 and U.S. Route 30. Commutes into and out of Chicago take less than an hour. For those who would rather not drive, METRA provides full, 24 hour service. Flossmoor's METRA station is easily accessible in the heart of its downtown.
Flossmoor's residential neighborhoods, which feature homes in a variety of architectural styles, serve as the town's most prominent examples of tradition and excellence. The community's diverse neighborhoods mix turn-of-the-century homes with modern styles giving each area its own character. Vintage Georgians, Tudors, and Colonials, newer sprawling brick ranches, and elegant luxurious townhomes and condominiums dot the Village's residential landscape of towering trees, manicured lawns and neighborhood parks. Residential neighborhoods are sufficiently isolated from traffic, maintaining a safe, peaceful atmosphere. Continuing in its residential traditions of excellence, Flossmoor recently approved plans for a new subdivision which will include 197 custom-built homes.
Flossmoor's business community maintains its own traditions of excellence. It continues to grow with a thriving Central Business District and successful retail shops and offices in the Flossmoor Commons. The downtown area offers a unique mix of retail stores, offices, apartments and dining establishments. The Flossmoor Commons shopping and office complex is home to a variety of exclusive stores and service establishments that attract both local and regional residents. While Flossmoor's business community is thriving, there is room for additional development within the town's TIF District. Development incentives consist of land cost writedowns, construction of public utilities, interest subsidies, and acquisition of property.
