School District 161

Younger students are served by School District 161, encompassing four elementary and one junior high school attended by approximately 2,400 children. Education is highly valued here; constituents, themselves highly literate, have fostered a culture - which demonstrates high expectation for academic performance. Volunteerism and family participation in school activities are high.
The district's credo is "Where Excellence is Basic." The achievement of district students continues a well-established tradition of quality and excellence, where students consistently rank at or near the top of state and national test score comparisions. Third graders, for example have scored over 25 percent higher than the state average on IGAP (Illinois Goals Assessment Program) math and reading tests. Students, teachers and administrators all exemplify the highest educational standards and have received numerous recognitions for their efforts.
