HURRICANE KATRINA

 

As a result of the catastrophic disaster that struck our neighbors in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.   Illinois is anticipating the arrival of approximately 10,000 displaced persons from the Gulf Coast.

 How you can help:  donations of hygiene and personal products are being accepted – Gift cards from Wal-Mart or Target – as well as monetary donations, are needed.  Your generous donation will help victims that have come to Will County.  The remainder will go to help those that remain on the Gulf Coast.  Please call The United Way of Will County at 815-723-2500 (Monday through Friday – 8:30am to 5:00pm).  They will direct you to the appropriate agency to drop off your donation.

 If you are a displaced resident from the disaster area of the Gulf Coast, please contact the following agencies for assistance:

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency)

1-800-621-3362; online registration at www.fema.gov; TTY number for speech or hearing impaired 1-800-462-7585 – please be patient as you may need to hold for a period of time.  Homeowners, Renters and Business Owners can call this number.  You need to have the following information:  a phone number – social security number – mailing address – address of damaged property – brief description of damages – and – if you have insurance, information about your coverage.
