The Lincoln Networks have grown so rapidly over the past year that WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have a desire to invest your time and talents in a project that is having a positive impact on the future of our region, we have just the place for you. With our small staff and the enormous amount of work to be done, we will only be able to experience continued growth with the help of volunteers like yourself. Below are descriptions of activity areas where we could put your valuable talents to use.

Clerical SupportIndividuals are needed to help in our office by typing (we use MS Office), helping with mailings, conducting telephone surveys, proofreading, and assisting in a variety of other clerical duties. There are also a number of tasks that could be done at home if coming to GSU is inconvenient.
Conference Hosts/HostessesFrequently we hold conferences and large regional meetings as part of the work of the Lincoln Networks. During these conferences, we have a need for individuals to staff the registration tables, assist with food lines, direct participants to various rooms, and a number of other onsite tasks. This is an area for volunteers who are friendly, well-organized, and enjoy meeting new people.
Desktop PublishingAre you the person at your church who always gets asked to do the bulletin, a brochure, or a flyer for the next potluck dinner? If so, you've got valuable skills that we could really use! If you can create the above types of publications using MS Office or Adobe Pagemaker (our offices), or whatever software you use at home, we would appreciate your help!Research & Data EntryThere are always a number of areas where research and data collection must be done. Whether related to health and human services or economic development, we have a never-ending list of information that we would like to include on Lincoln. If you have good communication skills and can work with database software, this is a good area for you.
Telephony AssistantsOne of the major components of the Lincoln Networks is the Lincoln InfoLine, a telephone-based information and communication network for our region. Some of the tasks in this area include data collection, learning about the telephony software and hardware in order to assist in maintenance, and recording content for the InfoLine.
Regional IssuesPart of the work of the South Metropolitan Regional Leadership Center and the Lincoln Networks is to foster collaboration and communication among groups and individuals around issues of importance to our region, such as health, education, the environment, diversity, image, economic development, and transportation. Volunteers are always needed to work in these issue areas.Helpdesk AssistantsVolunteers are needed to answer users questions related to connectivity problems. These volunteers work directly with our Helpdesk Technician, and tasks may include site visits when problems can't be resolved over the phone.
PublicityIn order for people to receive the benefits of the Lincoln Networks, they have to know we exist. If you have oral and written communication skills, we could use your help in getting the word out about our collective work. Tasks in this area include writing articles for print and electronic publication, making contact with members of the local press, and participating in a Speakers Bureau of people who make presentations about the Lincoln Networks to regional institutions and interested groups.
TrainersAs the Lincoln Networks continue to grow, we have become victims of our own success. There is a great need for volunteers to help train our users in a variety of areas, including web page design and development, and graphics applications.
UNIX System ProgrammersWe also have a great need for volunteers with more advanced technical skills, including Java, JavaScript, CGI (C/C++/Perl), and SQL.
