Passage will be obstructed several weeks.
Valparaiso Porter County Vidette, Thursday, 22 October, 1891
--The delay in erecting the new Joliet bridge in the west part
of the city, over the
P. Ft. W. & C. R. R., is causing some comment. The new bridge
as we understand
it is to have an elevation of five feet above the old one and numerous
complaints are
made that this will necessitate raising every load five feet or more
than necessary.
It looks as if it would put persons traveling that way, especially
those who have
heavy loads on their wagons, to a great deal of inconvenience, and
some think the
new bridge should be no higher than the old one was. On the other
hand the reason
given for the additional height was for protection to railroad employes.
The
approaches are to begin further back and the new grade will be as easily
approached
as the old one.
