This report has been prepared to provide the United States Congress and the public with information on the resources in the Calumet region of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. This report evaluates these resources in relation to parkland criteria established by the National Park Service. Publication and transmittal of this report is not an endorsement or a commitment by the National Park Service to seek or to support either specific legislative authorization for the project or fiscal appropriations for its implementation. Authorization and funding for any new commitments by the National Park Service are based on competing priorities for existing units of the national park system and other programs. This special resource study has been conducted in accordance with the Omnibus Parks and Public Lands Management Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-333, Division I, Title VIII, Sec.816).
