What Do Our Green Corridors Offer?
|
The corridors embrace a
wealth of natural resources - lakes, marshes, native prairies,
extensive forest preserves, the Grand Calumet and Little Calumet
Rivers, as well as many ponds and parks.
These open spaces are critical habitats for a wide variety of
animals and plants, many of them on endangered lists. They have
been enjoying these lakes, marshes and prairies for thousands of
years. This is their home. For many other varieties of birds, it
is a strategic rest stop on their migration routes. For all these
living things, the park is already a reality.

You don't have to trek 9 miles through the
Everglades
to view these Great Egrets. They can be seen right off the road in
the Lake Calumet wetlands.
