The Calumet region is
the unrecognized missing link
between the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore
on the east and the Illinois Heritage Corridor on the west. All of these
lands together form a wonderful green chain that supports the diversity of
wildlife enjoyed by the entire Illinois/Indiana region. Travelers who
pass by the Calumet region on their way from the Indiana Dunes to the
Heritage Corridor never know what they have missed!
No these are not leaves. They
are part of the spring migration of tens of thousands of
blackbirds. They fill the trees before dusk, then descend on
the reeds in Deadstick Pond at sunset.
