The park would follow a
pattern emerging in urban areas, to preserve non-adjacent sites located
conveniently for traveling from one to another. It would provide an
attractive interface with open lands without ecological value, which would
remain available for economic development.
These natural areas,
together with the historical and cultural assets of the adjacent
communities, will make the Calumet region a major recreation attraction.
This, in turn, will generate economic benefits.
Establishing the park
would resolve the constant struggle by residents to save their
neighborhoods from destruction by massive schemes,
such as the third
airport, and the continual onslaught of the waste disposal industry.
Calumet Ecological Park Association (CEPA) looks forward to
a future in which our heritage and the natural beauty of our lands will be
treasured and made available for travelers from our metropolitan area and
across the country.
